TIPS & SECRETS

Everything you need to find every collectible, solve every puzzle, and uncover every hidden secret in Mixtape.

Essential Tips

Start your playthrough right

๐ŸŽง

Use Headphones

The game's audio design includes subtle clues in the music and ambient sounds. Stereo headphones help you catch directional audio hints during exploration.

๐Ÿ’พ

Manual Save Often

The game has 10 manual save slots. Use them before major dialogue choices โ€” some decisions permanently lock you out of content or affect endings.

๐Ÿ’ฌ

Exhaust All Dialogue

Talk to every character multiple times. New dialogue options appear after story events, and some collectibles are only available through conversation.

๐Ÿ”

Look for the Shimmer

Interactable objects have a subtle shimmer effect. It's easy to miss in bright areas โ€” adjust your brightness if you're having trouble spotting items.

โฐ

Take Your Time

Except for the Chapter 4 escape sequence, there are no time limits. Explore thoroughly before advancing the story โ€” some areas become inaccessible.

๐ŸŽญ

Choices Matter

Your dialogue choices affect friendship levels, available scenes, and endings. There's no "wrong" choice, but being consistent with your character helps.

๐Ÿ”Ž

Hidden Content Everywhere

The game is packed with hidden achievements and secrets. One player reported being 38% through with only 2 achievements โ€” there's loads of hidden stuff to discover!

๐ŸŽฎ

The Game Knows

Developers anticipated many player actions. Try unusual things โ€” the game often has special responses for curious players who experiment.

Branching Choices & Endings

How your choices shape the story

๐ŸŽฌ

The Final Choice

The ending mechanic explained

โ–ผ

The game's finale involves a "press and hold" quick-time event with two options:

  • "Don't let go" โ€” Hold the button to maintain the connection
  • "Let go" โ€” Release the button to accept the change
Emotional Impact: Multiple players have described this moment as hitting them "in the heart like a truck." Be prepared for an emotional experience.
๐Ÿ›ค๏ธ

Character Path Divergence

Where the characters end up

โ–ผ

Your choices throughout the game affect where each character ends up:

  • Stacey โ€” Goes on a roadtrip after high school
  • Slater โ€” May or may not go to New York with her (branching path based on your choices)
  • The characters ultimately end up going "three different places"
Theme: The ending represents "the inevitable end of teenage friendships" โ€” a bittersweet conclusion to the summer of 1989.
๐ŸŽต

The Ending Song

Musical conclusion

โ–ผ

The game concludes with "Plainsong" by The Cure โ€” a fitting choice that captures the nostalgic, melancholic tone of the story's conclusion.

The game features a rich soundtrack with licensed music from the late 80s/early 90s, using flashbacks and storytelling techniques to create a powerful sense of nostalgia.

Tuning to the right station

The old radio equipment needs to be tuned to a specific frequency to reveal the hidden message on the tape.

Solution

  1. Check the DJ's logbook on the desk โ€” it mentions "our lucky number"

  3. The date gives you the frequency: 77.2 FM
  4. Tune the radio dial to 77.2

Easter Egg: If you tune to 92.1 FM first, you'll hear a snippet of the game's theme song.
